In Her Own Words:
The Art and Inspiration of Irene Chou
2019
Visual Identity Design / Publication Design / Exhibition Graphics
Client:Asia Society Hong Kong
Agency:Trilingua Design (Work completed during tenure)
This project encompasses the visual identity, catalogue editorial design, and exhibition graphics for a retrospective exhibition of the legendary contemporary ink artist Irene Chou, organized by Asia Society Hong Kong Center.
Design Process ——
The visual identity began by translating Chou’s signature techniques—such as her dynamic, splash-ink and heavy-ink stroke methods—into a core visual design language.
By centering the identity on her bold brushwork and vibrant color palette, the design goes beyond mere decoration to embody her artistic spirit across the entire visual system. Incorporating these sweeping strokes captures not only the beauty of her finished masterpieces, but also the energetic process of their creation.
Spatial & Collateral Design ——
In addition to the exhibition catalogue, the scope included designing caption boards, wall text graphics, large-scale outdoor facility banners, and promotional campaign assets.
To ensure an unobstructed, cohesive viewing experience, the layout utilizes minimal typography that complements the artwork. From print publication to environmental signage, font scales, material textures, and legibility under gallery lighting were meticulously tested to create a unified visual experience where the artwork and space resonate seamlessly.
